Weaving

Weaving began in Khunti and in nearby locations essentially as a domestic activity undertaken by certain families or villages to produce fabrics for personal use and ornamentation. Though in due course the finer skills of the craft started diminishing as the people engaged in weaving moved towards different occupations.

New Design and Technology for Weavers and Embroiders of Khunti - The project "New Design and Technology for Weavers and Embroiders of Khunti" was sanctioned by the Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India under SGSY on September 2006. This project is being implemented by Ambalika NGO.

Embroiders

Not much can be written about the inherent embroidery craft of the state. Traditionally the embroidery existing was very similar to what is done now in Bihar and Bengal. The basic difference being in the thickness of the running stitches and the motif usage.
